Digital india annoncementPrime Minister Narendra Modi announced digital platform on Thursday (Date:18/02/2016) at Sehore[MP].  As he resolved to ensure doubling of the farmers’ income by 2022. From the 14th of April, 2016, govt. will start digital platform for farmers. This would enable farmers to get a better price for their produce.
Government aimed to provide the benifits of the ‘Digital India’ initiative to the country’s farmers. For which a virtual platform of a national agricultural market is in the works. Plans were also afoot to connect 550 farmer markets in the country through the use of technology, Modi said while formally launching the ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’ at a farmer’s rally.Digital Platform

PM pushed for more and more use of modern technology and equipment along with traditional wisdom of farming. So that it will boost the agriculture sector to meet the domestic needs and to the demands from abroad.

“Prime Minister told that, they want to integrate technology in the agriculture sector. There should be a mix of progressive farming and age-old wisdom” .

All states and agriculture community should take a pledge to double the farmers’ income by 2022.  Finally PM told, “We will do whatever is required achieve this.”

Pradhan Mantri Fasal Yojana

The union cabinet in January declared ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’ in which premiums are as low as 1.5 %.  A uniform premium of 2% of the sum insured will be charged from farmers for all kharif crops and 1.5 % for rabi crops. The annual premium for horticultural crops will be 5% of the sum insured. The remaining insurance premium will be given by the government.
Modi, who unveiled guidelines for the recently-launched Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme[CIS] at Sehore[MP] rally, said this was one of the various initiatives of his government aimed at ensuring the welfare of the farmers who have been in distress due to vagaries of weather.

This digital platform will enable the farmers, using a mobile phone, to sell their produce anywhere in the country, wherever they can get a better price.

National agricultural market will provide a platform so that the farmers get the maximum price for their produce.

Currently the prices of various farm produce varied in different markets in the country. But farmers sold their yield at the nearest available market.

This resulted in un-remunerative prices to the farmers, which was sought to be redressed by the virtual platform of national agricultural market,

The ‘Digital India’ initiative would also help the farmers by giving them access to information on the best price offered for farm produce on their mobile phones in an instant.

The Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme, launched by government last month, will be a panacea for all problems faced by the farmers. “Farmers did not believe in the crop insurance policies of the previous United Progressive Alliance government. It is the main reason that not even 20 percent farmers in the country opted for crop insurance. Govt have now come up with this scheme keeping in mind the lack of interest among farmers,” and this crop insurance scheme will definitely benefit the farmers in the country.

Soil health card scheme

Soil Health Card Scheme[HCS] launched by the Government of India in February 2015. Under HCS, the government plans to issue soil cards to farmers which will carry crop-wise recommendations of nutrients and fertilisers required for the individual farms. This will help farmers to improve productivity through judicious use of inputs. All soil samples are to be tested in various soil testing labs across the country. Thereafter the experts will analyse the strength and weaknesses of the soil. The result and suggestion will be displayed in the cards. The government plans to issue the cards to 14 crore farmers in next 3 Years.
The Prime Minister also gave away soil health cards, and settlement certificates for insurance claims to select beneficiaries.

Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) is a national mission to improve farm productivity and ensure better utilization of the resources in the country. A budget of ₹500 billion in a time span of five years has been allocated to this scheme. The decision was taken on 1 July 2015 at the meeting of Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs(CCEA), which in turn was headed by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

Organic farming uses fertilizers and pesticides (which include herbicides, insecticides and fungicides) if they are considered natural (such as bone meal from animals or pyrethrin from flowers), but it excludes or strictly limits the use of various methods (including synthetic petrochemical fertilizers and pesticides; plant growth regulators such as hormones; antibiotic use in livestock; genetically modified organisms; human sewage sludge; and nanomaterials) in pursuit of goals including sustainability, openness, independence, health, and safety.

The government has stepped up import and supply of urea to ensure no shortage of the key fertilizer.
